About Me
Dr. Johnson-Byrd earned her registered nurse degree from St. Vincent’s hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan, New York, her bachelor’s degree and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Phoenix, and her doctorate in nursing practice from Walden University.
Dr. Johnson-Byrd previously served as a staff nurse at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, New York, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She worked for 20 years in school health and is a Nationally Certified School Nurse. Dr. Johnson has worked as full time faculty for Florida Southwestern State College, adjunct faculty for the University of Phoenix, South University, and Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Johnson-Byrd is currently working as the Director of the Associate program for Florida Southwestern state college.
Dr. Johnson-Byrd is the recipient of the Pasco Education Foundation Creative Teaching Grant in 2012 and 2017 and developed a school nurse/diabetes educator community partnership to increase services to children with diabetes. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Florida Nurses Association (FNA), National School Nurses Association Florida Nurses Association (NSNA), and Sigma theta Tau the honor Society of Nursing.
Dr. Johnson-Byrd has been a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Troop mom, a religious educator, and facilitator for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In her spare time, Dr. Johnson-Byrd enjoys gardening, the beach, crafts, and spending time with her family and three grandchildren.
